The one-year collaborative, pedagogical experience, Living Langston, engaged students from two subsequent entry-level video production courses. Students gained context for their work thanks to lectures from Dr. Daryl Carter (History, ETSU), interviewed Langston High School alumni, heard from Langston Education and Arts Development board members, and engaged with visiting filmmaker and University of Texas at Austin Associate Dean for Diversity, Ya'Ke Smith. Students created short documentary portraits of Langston High School alumni, fiction films inspired by Langston, and final projects where they reflected on their own education. Throughout the course, students were encouraged to think about how they might act to help create a more just society for all.
The 52 Film Festival
I launched the 52 Film Festival in 2022 (www.52filmfest.com) with local businesses, Action VFX and the Wallace Theatre. The timed film festival was created with our East Tennessee State University student filmmaking club, Buc Films, in mind. The festival has grown each year and is supported by local businesses including Plan A Films, Dos Gatos Coffeeshop, Maypop Media, and many others.
I started Tennessee Film Nights as a way to show locally made films and showcase local talent. We partnered with the awesome Atlantic Alehouse to present a regular mini-series of three evenings of screenings each fall and spring.

Tennessee Film Nights
This project was made as a collaborative, pedagogical project between students and faculty from the Radio, TV, Film Program and the Theatre & Dance Department at East Tennessee State University.
This project was filmed in April 2024 and completed in August 2024, before Hurricane Helene ravaged the region leaving behind permanent damage in the town of Lake Lure. Parts of the original film, Dirty Dancing, were filmed in Lake Lure, North Carolina.
