Dr. Shara K. Lange is Professor and Radio/Television/Film Program Head at East Tennessee State University in the Department of Media & Communication. Lange and Lee Bidgood produced BANJO ROMANTIKA: AMERICAN BLUEGRASS MUSIC AND THE CZECH IMAGINATION, which screened nationally on PBS and is distributed by DER.

 

Lange completed a PhD in Humanities at Concordia University in Montreal and her MFA in film production at the University of Texas in Austin's Radio/TV/Film department. Lange's dissertation, The Burden of Knowing: Place-Based Cinema Practices & Participation discusses ethical, community-based filmmaking practices and their intersection with pedagogical practices at East Tennessee State University. Her MFA thesis film, THE WAY NORTH tells the story of North African immigrant women in southern France and was a Regional Student Academy Award Semi-finalist. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to make the documentary, THE DRESSMAKERS (University Film & Video Association Award for Feature Length Documentary, 2013). Her most recent short film, WORK STICKS, screened at the Common Good International Film Festival & the Wild & Scenic Film Festival among others. Lange is currently working on a long-form creative-nonfiction film about non-violent protest actions in Northeast Tennessee.
