The one-year collaborative, pedagogical experience, Living Langston, engaged students from two subsequent entry-level video production courses. Students gained context for their work thanks to lectures from Dr. Daryl Carter (History, ETSU), interviewed Langston High School alumni, heard from Langston Education and Arts Development board members, and engaged with visiting filmmaker and University of Texas at Austin Associate Dean for Diversity, Ya'Ke Smith. Students created short documentary portraits of Langston High School alumni, fiction films inspired by Langston, and final projects where they reflected on their own education. Throughout the course, students were encouraged to think about how they might act to help create a more just society for all.
